Advancing the Science of Infrastructure Intelligence
An independent global institution advancing research, standards, policy, education and collaboration for intelligent, trusted, resilient and sustainable infrastructure.
Infrastructure is no longer defined only by concrete, steel, engineering and physical assets. Artificial Intelligence, Digital Public Infrastructure, data, digital twins, autonomous systems and climate technologies are transforming how infrastructure is designed, governed and operated. Yet these disciplines continue to develop in isolation. GCII has been established to bring them together through a new interdisciplinary field: The Science of Infrastructure Intelligence.
The Science of Infrastructure Intelligence is the interdisciplinary study and application of technologies, governance frameworks and institutional systems that enable physical, digital, energy, environmental and public infrastructure to sense, learn, predict, adapt and improve — bringing together engineering, Artificial Intelligence, data science, systems thinking, economics, public policy, governance and human-centred design.
Roads, railways, ports, airports, energy, water, telecom and urban infrastructure.
Digital identity, payments, data exchanges, cloud platforms, digital twins and interoperability.
Artificial Intelligence, analytics, prediction, optimisation, simulation and autonomous systems.
Trust, cybersecurity, standards, policy, regulation, ethics and institutional design.
GCII will:
A global benchmark measuring the maturity, resilience and intelligence of infrastructure systems across countries, cities and sectors.
A continuously updated knowledge platform tracking technologies, standards, policies, investment trends and global best practices.
An annual global forum bringing together public leaders, infrastructure operators, researchers, innovators and investors.
A global fellowship for researchers, policymakers, engineers and practitioners shaping the future of infrastructure.
Leadership programmes for governments, regulators, infrastructure operators and industry executives.
Independent research, policy support and institutional design for national, regional and city-level transformation.
Collaborative groups developing open standards, reference architectures, interoperability frameworks and maturity models.
Real-world pilot environments where governments, researchers and industry test and validate new approaches.
Global programmes supporting breakthrough ideas in intelligent, digital, sustainable and resilient infrastructure.
GCII translates research into deployable frameworks, demonstrators, policy guidance, standards and leadership capabilities — working across the complete innovation lifecycle, from scientific research and concept development to real-world implementation and institutional adoption.
“No single organisation can solve the infrastructure challenges of the twenty-first century. GCII creates the collaborative environment required to develop shared knowledge, trusted standards and scalable solutions.”
Contribute to original research, publications, indices and global policy discussions.
Connect with governments, infrastructure operators, academic institutions and innovators.
Participate in working groups shaping emerging reference architectures and maturity models.
Collaborate on living labs, pilot programmes, demonstrators and applied research.
Showcase expertise and innovation through GCII platforms, publications and events.
Access executive education, fellowships, peer learning and international exchange.
GCII membership brings together governments, infrastructure operators, technology companies, academic and research institutions, investors and individual experts committed to advancing the Science of Infrastructure Intelligence. Members contribute to research, standards working groups, global convenings and knowledge platforms, and help shape a new interdisciplinary field.
Share a little about yourself and how you would like to contribute. The Secretariat will follow up with the relevant membership formalities and next steps.
GCII's research publications, reports and editorial insights are in development and will be published here soon.
The Global Infrastructure Intelligence Index will assess countries, cities and infrastructure sectors across dimensions including digital maturity, data readiness, AI adoption, interoperability, resilience, sustainability, governance, cybersecurity and institutional capability.
The infrastructure challenges of the twenty-first century demand new thinking, new partnerships and a new scientific discipline. GCII invites governments, researchers, infrastructure operators, technology companies, philanthropic institutions, investors and innovators to join us in advancing the Science of Infrastructure Intelligence.
